We trace our roots back to 1864. During this time of great upheaval, Dr. Elias Carey, a surgeon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, saw a way to make daily life better. He started a company to design lamps for horse-drawn carriages.

Soon the world changed, and carriages were no longer the staple of daily life. No problem! In 1906, the Carey Company brought style and privacy to Americans on the go by designing curtains and curtain rollers for automobiles and venetian blinds for trains.
-
Americans could now travel farther and faster than ever before, but home is always where the heart is. The Philadelphia company (now Carey-McFall) used its 70 years of experience to create a modern, wooden-slatted venetian blind. Named after their hometown’s famous flag maker, the Betsy Ross Venetian Blind became the most popular blind in America by the early 1940s.

But when your country needs your help, you drop everything and help. And the company did just that in the 1940s when the U.S. entered WWII, using its factories to support the war effort instead. We're pretty sure Betsy Ross would approve.
-
When the war was over, it was time to celebrate the beauty of daily life and the joy of being home. The company returned to making venetian blinds, but, instead of wood, they used new, lighter aluminum, opening up a world of design possibilities.

Now, with 100 years of experience and new materials to create with, the company designed the Bali Custom Mini Blind, featuring 1-inch slats and invisible tapes. The Bali Custom Mini Blind launched the Bali brand.
-
In the 1980s, the Bali half-inch mini blind was created. The narrower slats added a sleek, modern look to homes and businesses. Soon, the Bali brand added vertical and pleated fabric blinds for more creative possibilities. The company also invented the Bali Ultra Blind, with an all-in-one cord control.

Just as families grow and change over the years, so did the Carey-McFall Company. In 1989, Carey-McFall joined the Springs family and moved headquarters from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin. Our best-in-industry customer service center still has its home in the original Pennsylvania location.

We continue to introduce new products and styles to make every day more beautiful, with the quality you can rely on.
